Affero Organizations
The Affero Project is a grassroots online community of global justice advocates who join together to give small change every month and Vote to Decide where the money goes. It’s simple... You Give, You Vote, You Decide.
Blood:Water Mission is a grassroots organization that empowers communities to work together against the HIV/AIDS and water crisis. We’re a group of passionate people who have been inspired by our friends in Africa, friends who face unbearable challenges from the HIV/AIDS and water crises. We creatively and thoughtfully raise awareness and the necessary funds for the provision of clean blood and clean water in sub-Saharan Africa.
Founded by the multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award-winning band, Jars of Clay, Blood:Water Mission began as a call to personalize the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. The members of the band were committed to share the often-untold stories: those of creative, compassionate, hard-working Africans bringing health, hope and healing into their respective communities.
Recognizing the complex nature of HIV/AIDS, BWM supports cross-cutting programs that address the full spectrum of prevention, treatment, and support. Each program is contextualized for the culture and environment in which it’s implemented, and works to take advantage existing health infrastructure. Prevention programs target high-risk populations in an effort to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as reduce stigma and correct cultural myths about the disease. Treatment programs coordinate with national healthcare efforts where possible, taking advantage of anti-retro viral therapy (ART) programs made available through government funding. As the number of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) in Africa continues to grow (currently 20 million or almost 6% of all children in Africa), it is imperative that parents receive access to treatment. Finally, community support programs focus on working with PLWAs, addressing the needs of OVCs, and building solidarity within communities. While outside programs and infrastructure are essential to addressing the HIV/AIDS crisis, BWM has begun this journey believing that the future of Africa ultimately rests in the hands its own people
